Innovative Neurorehabilitation Rooted in Neuroplasticity: Combining Activity-Based Therapy and Integrated Movement Coaching

At Vitality, our rehabilitation plans are built around each client’s individual goals. By implementing recovery-focused strategies, we work to reduce compensatory patterns and improve movement quality—paving the way for meaningful, functional outcomes.

Our approach uniquely combines Activity-Based Therapy (ABT) with Integrated Movement Coaching, offering clients a powerful new path forward in neurological rehabilitation.

Activity-Based Therapy (ABT): Movement as Medicine, Movement that Matters

ABT is an intensive, task-specific therapy model that has transformed neurological rehabilitation in North America and Australia by targeting activation of the neuromuscular system below the level of injury. At Vitality, we implement these protocols to suit the needs of our clients, using combinations of:

  • High-repetition, load-bearing activities

  • Neuromuscular re-education through active participation

  • Weight-supported movement training

  • Strengthening of voluntary and involuntary motor pathways

Integrated Movement Coaching: A Nervous System-Informed Approach

To elevate Vitality’s ABT, we incorporate Integrated Movement Coaching, informed by Zebrafish Neuro’s Framework for Recovery—a holistic, nervous system-first approach that emphasises regulation, neuroplasticity, and embodied integration to support long-term healing, functional resilience and improved motor control through key concepts, including:

  • Motor Development Progression
We follow the body’s natural developmental sequence—from rolling and crawling to upright movement. This re-establishes foundational patterns and supports full-body integration.

  • Fascial Line Tensegrity
Using the body’s fascial lines as a guide, we restore dynamic stability and efficient movement. This myofascial network is key to balance, posture, and whole-body connection & coordination.

  • Nervous System Regulation
We create a safe physiological environment where the body is open and receptive to change. Working within each client’s threshold of nervous system excitability allows for reproducible movement and long-term functional gains.

This method allows us to target not just the how of movement, but the why—activating reflexive systems, enhancing proprioceptive input, and engaging the brain-body relationship at every level.
